Snow Therapy
Timothée Lambrecq
CONTRAST is pleased to present a solo exhibition “Snow Therapy” by Tokyo-based visual artist Timothée Lambrecq from 2/3(Sat) to 12(Mon). Working primarily with photography and video, Timothée privileges authenticity over perfection while sharing his vision and invites viewers to be part of the experience. His previous project Heikō/ Heild, exploring the connection between Japan and Iceland has been shown in both cities he calls home: Tokyo and Reykjavík. In February 2021, Timothée suffered severe injuries due to a snowboarding accident, breaking bones in multiple places. He was hospitalized for three months, unable to even walk during that time. Although Timothée used to travel worldwide engaging with nature in its different elements and creating art through his journey, his love for snow and snowy landscapes had turned into a source of threat and trauma. The following year, to confront his fears, Timothée went on a journey to Hokkaido, known for its heavy snowfall. With deep snow, blizzards, and the play of reflected light, the emotional expedition to Hokkaido became a healing experience for him. Also, it allowed the artist to reconnect with snow and nature. At the same time, it gave him an idea - perhaps this personal journey could resonate with others. While everyone's trauma is not the same, the presence of snow might possess a universal power that appeals to all of us. The purpose of this exhibition is to create a meditative and playful visual experience. The artist aims to explore the relationship between nature and humanity, anticipating the positive impact of nature on both body and mind. A sound performance titled "Ice Meditation" by Yoichi Uemura will be held at the opening on 2/3(Sat) and a silk screen printing workshop will be held on 2/10(Sat). ー Graphic design: Akino Tagami Text & planning associate: Mai Tsunoo Space design & construction: Yoshiki Sawada Music playlist: KOM_I Sound performance: Yoichi Kamimura Soap Package Design : Ryota Kanno
