NIGHT ART FAIR TAIPEI

CONTRAST is pleased to announce that we will be participating in the first art fair "NIGHT ART FAIR TAIPEI" from May 11th, Thursday to 14th, Sunday during the annual Taipei Art Week. Founded by Taiwanese artist Chou Shih Hsiung, the fair will be held during the dark hours of the night under the theme of "noir," breaking conventions of the white gallery walls and exploring possibilities within the art industry through new approaches in visual design and time. The venue is located at "Songshan Cultural and Creative Park" which was renovated from a former tobacco factory and is known as a center of art and culture in Taipei. CONTRAST will be exhibiting works by Andrea Samory, Hiroyuki Arikawa (WORKSHOP™), and Luigi Honorat.

We are Computational Craftsmen

DIGRAPH

CONTRAST is pleased to announce an exhibition, "We are Computational Craftsmen" by creative studio DIGRAPH from 4/15(Sat) to 23(Sun). DIGRAPH is led by designer Hiromasa Fukaji and programmer Junichiro Horikawa with the concept of "We are Computational Craftsmen," they explore new possibilities for expression by combining computational processes and craftsmanship. They have received numerous awards such as The One Show, CANNES LIONS, and D&AD Awards. In this exhibition, DIGRAPH's representative methods, a graphic work using "Plotter Drawing "*, a technique that explores the boundary between the digital and the physical, and in addition to a new ceramic work, "Com- Potte" series using a new method that utilizes a 3D printer and the computational process will be featured. With the ability to think logically using the computer as the starting point and the expressive power to create works in the real world, they challenge new creative works that fuse the characteristics of both computers and humans. *A method of converting digital data into physical movement using a plotter (a device that converts and outputs vector data) and drawing with various brush tools. ー Organized by DIGRAPH Supported by IN FOCUS inc.

DIGRAPH

DIGRAPH is a creative studio formed in 2023 by designer Hiromasa Fukachi and programmer Junichiro Horikawa. With the concept of "We are Computational Craftsmen," they research new forms of expression that combine the mathematical thinking ability to manipulate computers with the craftsmanship to embody beautifully. Using digital fabrication (computer-controlled devices) such as plotters and 3D printers as their main expression tools, they aim to develop and present the possibilities of expression that fuse the digital and the physical, while valuing both "computational processes" and "hands-on experimentation. The collaborative exhibition "NATURE/CODE/DRAWING"(July 2022, Shibuya Hikarie 8) was the impetus for the formation of DIGRAPH, led to the publishing of a book of works by the Berlin, Germany-based publishing house "Vetro Editions"(March 2023), their activities are spreading to Europe and the rest of the world, including a traveling exhibition at "GALERIE DATA" in Paris, France (March 2023).

About CONTRAST
In 2022, CONTRAST opened as a creative space in Yoyogi-Hachiman, Tokyo. The interior, based on a 45-year-old structure, consists of three floors under the concept of "reconstruction," and is managed by IN FOCUS, a digital branding studio that operates under the theme of "We propose new perspectives through a collective pursuit of digital excellence.". The space not only serves as its own creative space but also aims to be widely open to the public, providing a space for continuous and experimental reconstruction by its users, breaking free from limitations. Focusing on various forms of expression and encountering the creators who produce them, we will come to understand the importance of "CONTRAST = comparison" in our endeavors.
