Absences

Luigi Honorat

CONTRAST is pleased to present a solo exhibition"Absences" by Tokyo based French visual artist Luigi Honorat from March 4th, Saturday to March 19th, Sunday. Luigi was trained as a sculptor at the Musashino Art University, where he currently holds a position as a lecturer. He explores the medium of physical matter and 3DCG to search for new sculptural forms, movements, and processes. He combines and interlinks various elements such as "reality and virtuality,""object and data," and "beauty and the uncanny," to create installations, sculptures, and video works. He has worked for brands like Apple, Adidas, L'Oréal, The New York Times, as well as musicians such as Moses Sumney, Son Lux's Ian Chang, Micka Luna, Variéras, etc. In this exhibition, he will present a new series of digital sculptures in three different mediums: print, AR (augmented reality), and video. Through prints and AR, audiences can experience digital sculptures that do not exist, and also in the video work, a series of digital sculpture forms are structured, and the process of transmuting, disappearing, and dissolving the figurative bodies explores the concept of "Absences". In addition, AR marker prints will be available for purchase at the venue, which can be experienced in other spaces to inquire about the relationship between space and the body. Although he has been showing many of his works on social media, we hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy the world of "Absences" filled with virtual and digital sculptures that exist in reality.

Reflective Configuration

Hiroyuki Arikawa (WORKSHOP™)

CONTRAST is pleased to present a solo exhibition"Reflective Configuration" by artist Hiroyuki Arikawa (WORKSHOP™) from January 21st, Saturday to February 5th Sunday. After graduating from Kuwasawa Design School, Arikawa worked on planning and design for several apparel brands before starting WORKSHOP™(workshop trademark) in 2019, which focuses on object and fixture production and spatial composition. In 2021, he created visuals for TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance/ Apparel, and he mainly works using industrial materials such as aluminum frames, LED fluorescent lights, and cords. This exhibition features the starting point of "changes in manifested memory," in which the artist himself traces the sensations and memories of the past that he had forgotten, and how he has arbitrarily recorded and accumulated visual and aural information. In addition to solid objects, which is Arikawa's forte, he will present works that incorporate non-visual structures such as sound and rhythmic sequencing as well as themes that reflect fashion. Also, there will be publications specially created for this exhibition published by Rondade for sale. We hope you will enjoy Arikawa's memories constructed from industrial materials. About CONTRAST
In 2022, CONTRAST opened as a creative space in Yoyogi-Hachiman, Tokyo. The interior, based on a 45-year-old structure, consists of three floors under the concept of "reconstruction," and is managed by IN FOCUS, a digital branding studio that operates under the theme of "We propose new perspectives through a collective pursuit of digital excellence.". The space not only serves as its own creative space but also aims to be widely open to the public, providing a space for continuous and experimental reconstruction by its users, breaking free from limitations. Focusing on various forms of expression and encountering the creators who produce them, we will come to understand the importance of "CONTRAST = comparison" in our endeavors.
